Next year will mark 70 years since HM The Queen came to the throne.  Plans are in place for celebrations to mark her Platinum Jubilee.

As part of the celebrations, HRH The Prince of Wales has devised a project called The Queen’s Green Canopy, which is designed to leave a legacy in memory of his mother’s reign for many generations to come.

The idea is for people, both individuals and organisations, to plant as many trees as possible around the country during the tree-planting seasons that run from October 2021 through to March 2022, and again from October 2022 to the end of next year.

The Berkley Care Group are joining in, and they have made a start!

Shinfield View care home has begun planting new trees this week with the local nursery Honey Suckle day nursery and the local schools in the village Shinfield infants and St Mary’s. Jodie Whatmore, General Manager and Laura McSoley, Events Manager of Shinfield View said it’s really great being able to get out in the local community and join forces for such a special occasion.

The project that we are working towards is planting as many new trees in our community this October to be able to revisit and see how much they have grown next year for the Queen’s Jubilee. We could not have done this without the kind donations from the charity freely fruity who have given us baby apple trees to plant so we haven’t just got new trees into the community but also fruit which is amazing. Big thank you to one of the co-founders of this charity Matthew Knight who came along to help dig the holes and a huge thank you to all the children who got involved and rolled up their sleeves to dig and get them in the ground last week.

This initiative will not only celebrate the Queen’s long reign but also have a positive impact on the environment and help to counter the damaging effects of climate change.
