A Day in Your Shoes Initiative

This week, across Berkley Care Group, colleagues took part in B: In Your Shoes, an initiative where central team members step into frontline roles to experience daily life in our homes.

From housekeeping at Leycester House and Blenheim House to shadowing in reception, kitchens and care teams across all 12 homes, the week was about understanding, connecting and learning directly from those who make our homes so special.

Experiencing these roles first-hand gives invaluable perspective. It shows the physical demands of the work, the creativity and compassion required, and the many small interactions that bring comfort, dignity and joy to residents every day.

For our central team it is also about building stronger ties with colleagues on the ground and ensuring decisions made at group level reflect the reality of daily care. Many of our most impactful initiatives, from awards and uniform changes to wellbeing programmes, have been inspired by insights from this initiative.

Above all, B: In Your Shoes is a celebration of our teams. It recognises the extraordinary commitment of every colleague and reinforces our belief that great leadership starts with empathy, understanding and shared experience.

Thank you to everyone who took part, and to our incredible teams across the group who welcomed us into their homes.

We’ve had a fantastic week connecting with our local community and preparing for the holidays. Stay tuned for more festive updates as the countdown to Christmas continues!
